Mallaskoski Kuohu Valioluokka Pale Ale

Finnish Indie brewery makes decent/OK basic beers and its Valioluokka-series has been the best of them so far, mainly the Valioluokka Pils with its highly aromatic vibe making it a quality Pils (if fresh, as I also had couple of not-so-good-anymore diasetyl bombs last summer). This has very perfume-like scent, flowers and such. Beer looks clear and yellowbrown. Taste is a bit disappointing at first, as it is very thin and watery. Aftertaste is better – bitter, hoppy – but still like somehow restrained.

Maybe the filtration has done its worst to destroy an aromatic and hoppy Pale Ale and now this feels a bit like many industrial lagers: Easy drinkable but also easily forgettable. Sorry, but this is not very high quality, as the Finnish term valioluokka (Premium, Quality, High Class) would expect. Not bad either, but very disappointing, in a way. Still, after some disappointing words I have to say that this has a nice drinkability factor and it could be a great session beer in summer, as it is at the same time kinda light but gives a nice citrus-grape ending and that nice flowerlike bitter hoppy aftertaste saves this from being a failure. I should have a couple of these, so I could say, if this has potential to be good all-around summer beer this year.

***- OK, just about
