Stadin American Pale Ale

Wow, another Finnish APA I have found in grocery store in few weeks. And this is even better than Nokian 66 Keisari! Fuck, they know how to make beers in Stadin Panimo - obviously the best Finnish indie brewery by a mile. I don't remember having bad Stadin Panimo product in a while and I've had quite a few of them. This is very "American" (because of the heavy use of American hops) in its hoppy aroma and taste - which both are very fruity and citrusy, nice. Me likes a hell of a lot! This could be compared for example to BrewDog's Dead Pony Club ("Californian Pale Ale"), which this wins with its harmony and balance by a mile. I love this beer. We Finns rule in beer making :D **** Great

Mallaskosken Kuohu Valioluokka Pils

When I was starting my beer blogging career, Mallaskosken Panimo was in my books maybe the best Finnish indie brewery. It's spearhead product was Kuohu Amber, which was at the time maybe the one beer I had drunk the most for a long time. Then I just got bored of it. Now Mallaskosken Panimo is back! They made two of these "premium class" (Valioluokka) beers, and this is just first of them, Pils, which I did not expect to be this fucking good. Another one is stout, which will be maybe the first widely spread Finnish grocecy sold stout. I'm really waiting to have that one. What about this Pils then - isn't this just one poor copy of the greatest Czech pilsners or some German counterparts? Well, this is Finnish Pils in its greatest. There are not those esters dominating the taste, like in the classic Pilsner Urquell. This is soft, creamy, like "mother's milk" if you will. Everything is in great balance. There is not that awful metallic sense that ruins

Quickies from Jimbo's Beer Friday

Howdy ho! After a long and satisfying week at work, friday came. I love fridays, in Friday I'm In Love . This friday I went for a supermegamarketshopping with my kid and dear friend (and ex-wife), but did not find any interesting new beers there :(  However, after transporting my 170€ groceries home, I went for a dinner with my df-ex-w and after watching some disoriented girls messing with their pizza orders in KotiPizza, decided instead to go to Rosso, a local long-term restaurant. Well, it was a much better choice, great salad, very interesting Cuginetto pizza and first beer of this friday. Peroni lager Light industrial lager from Italy. Fresh and pure, nice with the pizza. There were many cheeses in this Cuginetto, some blue cheese and others, very nice. Actually this beer was very good alongside the heavy cheese pizza, but otherwise nothing to tell to future grandchildren about this beer :) ** Drinkable Brooklyn  Lager After pizza it was time for desser

Hop Ottin' IPA

picture from aleheads.com Nice to find great new beer in local bar as this is a small town and the variety of beers is not so good - basic Finnish anc Czech beers rule here in the Finnish backwoods. A nice evening with friends from Gentlemen's Club having a billiard tournament (in which I sucked) in Saint Kukko, Kajaani. On tap the great Finnish Koff Porter, but still I chose this IPA as my evening standard. 7,0% alc Californian IPA. In good shape, very aromatic IPA! Anderson Valley Brewing Company makes this grapefruit, citruslike, maybe also plummy scented IPA with an unfiltered misty look. Taste is great too, very nice IPA bite, and perfectly bitter finish with aftertaste. After this a German lager tasted like, well, very very dull. Props to all the great American breweries making their spearhead products that these lovely IPA's almost without an exception are. **** Great

Laitilan Kievari Mämmi

Påsk, spring time equinox, mämmi. In Finland, we eat a dessert that looks like shit. Here it is in liquid form. Actually this mämmi seems quite clear, with copper brown color. Head disappears faster than I can write these sentences. Scent is very dull, like with those industrial bulk lagers, almost. Taste is odd, sweet, mämmilike. Not good. ** Drinkable

Goose Island IPA

I may have reviewed this earlier. Now I must review all the beers again, as I have no money to make a decent order from abroad and Alko only sells all the familiar shit. I drove my car against other and that cost me 200 euros. Actually that is not so bad, but it wasn't really a big crash, you know. Still, I would have ordered a big load of good beer from Belgium or Scotland or Denmark, but now, I'm having this. Very light, but misty IPA. Scent is soooo lovely. I have missed these grape fruit IPAs! Taste is also familiar yankee IPA, but this is a bit less aromatic and good than its many competitors. There is certain hoppiness and aftertaste is dry and hoppy, but still, this feels a bit thin in mouth. Somethings missing. Maybe alcohol :D Still, after that horrible Swedish industrial lager, this feels like heaven! *** OK

Krönleins Motörhead Lager

Unfortunately this beer is best unopened, because of the nice Motörhead label. Swedish industrial bullshit lager. This would not be good in any conditions. As this should be some rocking beer, I have to give this a rocking rating too. Smells and tastes like piss. * Some kind of piss (Well, actually it was drinkable, I didn't throw it away, but it's a waste of money to buy this shit, as you can buy the cheapest bulk lager you can find and it must be as good as this shit!)

Laitilan Kievari Portteri

Dark Finnish indie porter with 6,5% alc vol. Pours dark maybe a bit amber/copper brown, not black I mean. Nice, a slightly burned, a bit sweet aroma. Taste has coffee, roasted malts and very nice aftertaste, dry and nicely burned, not too sweet – and not too burned either. Me likes! A very good porter and as Laitilan Kievari beers are not my big favorites, they kinda seem to rule in making a porter (although I liked their oddball barley wine too!).   Scent is lovely, I love sniffing this :) Taste is a bit slower to open but when it opens, it is great and in balance. This shit suits me well tonight. **** Great

Brakspear Triple

pic by insidebeer.com English three times hopped strong ale with 6,7% alc vol. Not so strong after all. Pours copper brown. Quite clear looking. Head is almost non existent. Maybe too cold, when I opened. A bit toffeelike nutty scent. Mouthfeel is nice, and sharp with carbondioxide. Taste opens slowly (maybe because of coldness) but aftertaste reveals a lot more of the good and harmonic taste of traditional British Ales. Reminds me a lot of Fuller's best ales, like Vintage Ale 2011. Still, have to say this is a lot better than Vintage Ale 2012 :) Not too sweet, which I like. A very good ale for many occasions, maybe even great, but have to drink another one of these some day and decide then. *** OK
