AleSmith Horny Devil Ale

pic from barleydine.wordpress.com So, I'm going to meet a woman and she asks me, do I bring some of my good beers with me (for me, she drinks ordinary shite :D). Well, my cellar is almost empty, but I go get one. I pick this, laugh and show it to her also: I'm gonna be Horny Devil tonight :) So, this is "Belgian-style Ale Brewed with Coriander" as the bottle tells me. Nice bottle btw, 650ml of AleSmith-style. Aroma is actually a bit like in mead (honey wine), which is in Finland called "sima" and drank in 1st of May, which is a national holiday, a celebration of spring and working class. Well, aroma had sima, what about the taste? It is actually very good. I'm not a big fan of Belgian-style beers as a whole, but there are exceptions like some of the best golden ales. There is that lovely yeasty but also spicy sweetness, but all tastes are in great balance and I like mouthfeel a lot. It's in some way like a sparkling wine, but a lot bette

BrewDog Paradox Jura

pic from ww w.passionbeer.com Black pours in glass. Head is almost non-existent. Aroma is a bit whisky-like, but mainly some roasted malts, stoutlike. Taste is quite good. Burned, but in a sensitive way. Aftertaste is not too strong, but this must be the best of those ”whisky-aged” beers I have had lately. This is quite drinkable, actually. This is a very good imperial stout. This has balance, which lacks in some BrewDog beers. This is kinda moderate, but at the same time elegant. Back to aroma. It's very imperial stoutlike actually. I'm starting to wait, if this has something in its back pocket, but it has not. This is just good stuff. But, and this question is often important: Is this great? I actually can't say. I like this, but there are better beers. Even the earlier AB:12 was better, because it had something unique in it. Must change rating. Don't get me wrong. This is very good beer. Maybe even great. But in a genre of imperial

BrewDog San Diego Scotch Ale

A nice cardboard box which has skulls and bones. Whisky cask aged with raisins soaked in Ballast Point Rum. 11,9% alc. Reddish brown beer pours in glass. Head is nice and foamy. Scent gives some rum like scent, quite nice. I like their speech in the box. This is the end quote, which I want to sign: "Take this world as your hostage because tonight, there´s nothing they can fucking do about it." I'm not saying drunks rule, because I'm one of them, but great beers rule and I hope most of the people that are getting drunk, would drink best beers. Is this one of them, though? Well, this is very weird, indeed. Very thick mouthfeel. You can taste, there are lots happening. Rum-shit, whisky-shit, beer-shit. This is full of lots of shit. Not easy shit, you know! This tastes like not those oak ch ip spiced beers , but the r eal deal . Still, I don't know if I like this kin d of barrel spici n g. Beers are beer, rums are rums a

BrewDog Tokyo

ABV: 18.2% OG: 1140 IBU's: 90 Malts: Marris Otter, Dark Crystal, Caramalt, Chocolate Malt, Roast Barley Hops: Galena Twist: Brewed with Jasmine and Cranberries. Dry-Hopped then aged on oak chips. Black stout pours in glass. Head is very nice, creamy, stoutlike. Aroma is a bit sweet roasty malts. Taste is very nice, it has all kinds of flavors, but not bitterness, until in the aftertaste a bit. I have to let this warm up a bit and continue after that... There is some portwine like sweetness and chocolate, also black coffee with sugar. I think this is kind of basic imperial stout (I mean not a particularly BrewDog "hopbomb", which this is not), but can't say for sure, yet, as this was a bit too cold as it was in my cellar (maybe 5-10 degrees). Very warming (obviously, 18.2% alc) and relaxing beer, which is slightly too sweet for my taste, but still fucking good imperial stout (which this is, in a traditional way) for these kinds of one beer

BrewDog Abstrakt AB:12

Bottled 12.12.12. Pours black. Small head stays long in my BrewDog-aroma -glass, that might have been named Abstrakt glass. Aroma is nice: I sense some spices, but can't say, what. Still, I like it. Taste is quite odd at first. Very spicy. First I think there is also cherries or something, but I hate krieks, so am happy not to sense that too strong. I have to check, what BrewDog-webpage says about this, it's so interesting! → ”It is an 11.7% Imperial Black Belgian Ale aged in old Invergordon Scotch whisky barrels with mountains of raspberries, tayberries and blackberries in each cask. Decadent yet surprisingly light and refreshing, this is a moreish fruit sensation sure to leave your tounge tingling in delight!” ABV: 11.7% OG: 1108 IBU's: 35 Malts: Extra Pale, Chocolate and Carafa III Hops: Tomahawk, Magnum, Centennial and Amarillo Twist: matured in scotch whisky barrels with mountains of raspberries, tayberries and blackberri

Achel Brune

Trappist Brown Ale.  Caramel, sweet malts.  A nice dessert beer, not bad. *** OK

Del Borgo Old Antonia

Ital ian ale. Maybe my first ever. Calvados barrel aged. Odd. For those, who love calvados.  This was not my favorite. Not bad, but not very good either, because aroma and taste of calvados is so dominant. ** Drinkable

Green Flash West Coast IPA

D id I just go back in time 30 minutes and open the same Ballast Point Sculpin IPA again? No, this is different one. And no different at all. This too is basic modern American craftbeer IPA. Good basic shit, but this actually lacks a bit aroma, I'm not sure, if this is very fresh anymore... T aste is hoppy bitter. Have to say, this is ok, 'cause there are many poor lagers that are so far away from even this, that is the basic standard of American IPA with nothing spectacular that would raise the ”I want more” factor. *** OK

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

7%, 650ml, SC 168, Enjoy by 01/09/13. Not very lasting head . OK aroma of American hops. Looks like Pale Ale. Taste is very bitter, hoppy bitter. Aftertaste is very dry and hoppy. So, this is basic modern American craftbeer IPA. Nothing wrong with this and it's a great session beer because of e as y drinkability for a IPA lover , but n ot specta cular otherw ise.  Last statement: Good . *** OK
