Pistonhead

Swedish basic lager. Or is this? It comes in can, which looks like it should be a beer that SOA-guys drink, when they drive the motorcycles. I love SOA. And this was from my neighborhood grocery, so it is fine for a nice monday night drink with my gay salad. This has also some hoppiness, which makes it better choise than more ordinary industrial lagers. For a lager this was actually fine, but maybe not for any other use than getting drunk :P

** Drinkable
*** OK for a bulk lager

  1. You love Service Oriented Architecture? Yes, I kind of dig it as well, but I'd rather not use such strong words in this phase. I'll wait for ten years or so and see if SOA is still being considered such a big hit in the IT world as it seems to be today.

But Pistonhead, I like that beer. Not just only because of the cool logo, and mental associations to machinery, but because it tastes different. I'm not a connoisseur enough to name the difference, be it hoppiness, gayness or whatever. Kind of slightly bitter taste, but not bitter of the bad kind. Well, what do I know, being a pleb.

Might I mention that last winter my local K-Citymarket sold this beer in 10 can cases for a considerably low price. Perhaps needless to say, I ended up purchasing, and finally consuming many of those.

    1. Yo man! Nice to see, that you still read this shit :)

By SOA I meant my favorite TV-show Sons of Anarchy, which I might have recommended in my blog earlier too, at least the picture in this post indicates that:

But yeah, Pistonhead was okay I think. I just am quite harsh reviewer these days, as I read some older reviews where Karhu Ruis is "Great", which I haven't said of many greater beers, but still, that is the only Finnish big brand I drink these days too, so maybe it was mainly a thank you to Sinebrychoff for making unfiltered rye beer and for the effort on changing ordinary beer drinkers' opinions about what beer tastes or should taste.

Pistonhead seemed to be quite good drinking beer, so no bad things to say about it in general. So maybe I should raise my review to ok then as it is better than many its competitors in its own bulk lager genre.

  2. Having never seen a single Sons of Anarchy episode, knowing nothing about the show, may I ask: why would a tree-huggin', peace-lovin', environmentally-friendly eco-hippie such as yourself love such a TV show so passionately? I mean, isn't it full of violence and other questionable content? And, if so, should I buy it on DVD?

    1. It's hard to say why Sons of Anarchy is so good. Violent hairy men riding their bikes, drinking, smoking, cursing, fucking, shooting, hitting. Being cool in their cuts :) Being the backbone of their town keeping drugs away from their town and stuff for the community, but still making their living by dealing weapons to other criminal organizations.

But yeah, it's still a family drama, created by one man's vision. Creator Kurt Sutter is cool dude, who seems to be smart and neurotic at the same time, wise and angry, funny as hell. Kurt grew up watching tv a lot and has been a writer for tv shows, for example cop series The Shield before creating SOA.

And yeah, SOA is a family drama inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet :)

      Here's shit about Kurt:

In his blog he summed up the fourth season (no spoilers...fifth season beginning in september) this way:

"Anyway, I'll keep writing the show the way I always have and hopefully the audience will continue to show up. And the critics will lament how imperfect and frustrating the show is to watch and yet they'll continue to watch it and write about it, week after week, after week, after week... it's almost as if they're being entertained.

I was going to tag this entry by calling them all cunts, but maybe that's a little harsh.

      Half-cunts."

So, a gifted writer, interesting season-spanning (and series-spanning) storylines, absolutely fabulous cast of interesting personas in the MC and its "family". That's SOA. That's why I love it.

I have three first seasons on DVD-boxsets. First seasons starts a bit lazy, but gets interesting after a while, second season is the bomb and third season different but very good. Fourth season is a transition and it is interesting to see, what comes next...

PS. How am I a tree-huggin' eco-hippie? Driving a car, warming my old house with electricity and loving being home watching through the window glass rather than going outside. My hobbies are playing with my computer and listening to music and drinking beer :) And my peace-lovin' side has also diminished when I have gathered more hatred against stupid humanity and people in general :P But yeah, I still love too, some people and some things, but life has never been black and white for me and it's nice to watch series like SOA, where people live more extremely than "normal people", but still are people like the rest of us, with morals, fears, strengths, weaknessess, loves, hates and a work to be done :)
