Unfiltered pils from Finland. This is organic. Nice misty look. Nice malty aroma. Easy-drinking and very smooth mouthfeel. Surprisingly good pils! Or course this is a bit light as the alcohol level has been forced to pass Finnish grocery sale level of max 4,7%, and there is 4,5% alc vol. But, actually, I think this beer is better this way. A good drink! Not for long lasting enjoyment but for the drinking with your food or when you are thirsty or - as we Finns like sauna - for a sauna beer.   *** OK

Gouden Carolus Easter

So, easter bunny, a crusader and some flying church bells. This is a Belgian 750ml treat for dudes and dudettes celebrating spring-time equanox, that some call easter. 10,5% vol alc, some dark brown or dirty copper brown or even slightly amber in some light, with a nice creamy head. I'm sorry, I'm in no condition to review anything. I have a flu. I don't sense any aroma in this beer, whatsoever. It might be too cold too, which is my basic flaw in almost every review. I just go to my cellar, get a bottle, have some food and open the bottle which is propably between 5-10 degrees celsius, maybe even less. Taste might be affected by the flu too, because I sense, errmm, just a hint of Belgian strong ale. This is quite easy drinking for me in this state, but almost non-existent in aroma and taste. At least aftertaste gives something...some spicyness, maybe some warming alcohol, maltiness. But is this really this tasteless? Can't be. I blame my condition. St...

Master Tmavy

Czech dark strong lager. So, it's dark and malty. Almost all dark Czech lagers I recollect, have been sweet, too sweet for my current ”sophisticated” (ie. Too drunk to fuck) beer taste (fucking snob...) But, as this is made by Pivovar Velké Popovice, it is not far fetched to think that this might also be ”another dark velke”. I'm not saying dark velke is bad, but...it's just not my cup of beer. This is not too sweet. This at first seems to be a bit metallic. Also the aroma is ”only malty”, which does not give a lot of hops or such, so I thought the taste would be a basic dark lagerish, but not at all. There is some sharp sense in my mouth...it must be because of carbon dioxide, but hell, I actually like this beer! There are roasted malts and very good drinkability factor. Everything is in balance, nothing actually disturbs me, this is not shite at all. Very good in its own category of dark lagers, possibly the best in the world. *** OK

St. Feuillen ”påsk beer”

Brewed by Belgian Brasserie St Feuillien Quite odd spring beer as it has not strong aroma when sniffed as I think of spring as an period of year, when everything borns again after winter and the aromas are full of life. This beer is not.  Taste is also disappointing. I can feel some spices, but very much just dull taste of nothingness. This is kinda beer with no character of its own. Just trying to be something, but disappointingly failuring. ** Drinkable

Sinebrychoff Nikolai Cascade Ale

Industrial shit in a can. Not bad, if you wanna get drunk by drinking lots of basic beer. Don't know any other reason to drink this. I don't know if this a very good advertisement for beer using Cascade hops, as this is very poor for Nikolai brand of beers. ** Drinkable

AleSmith Horny Devil Ale

pic from barleydine.wordpress.com So, I'm going to meet a woman and she asks me, do I bring some of my good beers with me (for me, she drinks ordinary shite :D). Well, my cellar is almost empty, but I go get one. I pick this, laugh and show it to her also: I'm gonna be Horny Devil tonight :) So, this is "Belgian-style Ale Brewed with Coriander" as the bottle tells me. Nice bottle btw, 650ml of AleSmith-style. Aroma is actually a bit like in mead (honey wine), which is in Finland called "sima" and drank in 1st of May, which is a national holiday, a celebration of spring and working class. Well, aroma had sima, what about the taste? It is actually very good. I'm not a big fan of Belgian-style beers as a whole, but there are exceptions like some of the best golden ales. There is that lovely yeasty but also spicy sweetness, but all tastes are in great balance and I like mouthfeel a lot. It's in some way like a sparkling wine, but a lot bette...
