Iso-Kallan SalmiakkiPorter

Finnish indie brew from heart of Savonia, Finland. I have never tasted their beers before. This porter has salty liquorice infused in it, which I like a lot usually, but in this beer, everything is a bit bland. Smell/scent is a bit metallic. Taste is a bit watery and light bodied and short, maybe some ash too.

It reminds me of some poor black lagers more than porter. There are dark/roasted malts, coffee and liquorice, but its just like a watered version of the really good porters, and Laitila made their liquorice infusion way much better. I’m sorry to say, but this was a very poor first encounter with this “almost local” indie brewery.

** Drinkable
